WHO IS THIS SESSION FOR?
A Newborn Session is ideal for babies who are a few days old up to a few weeks old. During the first few weeks babies tend to stay tucked in and swaddled. This is the perfect opportunity to remember how small your new little one is and to capture all the fleeting feelings associated with a newborn.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE SESSION?
During the session you can expect a calm, inviting and warm environment. I know that having a new baby is hard and getting out the door for an appointment is even harder. So I provide everything you’ll need. I have a large selection of props, clothing options that can borrowed from the studio wardrobe and lots of coffee. You just have to come camera ready or “add-on” hair and make-up because of course you’re going to be in a few images with your new little one.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?
I love booking newborn sessions while mom is still pregnant. Around 30 weeks is ideal so we have plenty of time to plan which colors, textures and set designs you love most. This also gives us enough time to add on a maternity photo session if you choose to do so. Your newborn photo session will initially be scheduled for your due date and then change accordingly once the baby is born. My favorite time to photograph newborns is between 4-14 days of life. During this time, babies are as little as they’re going to be and they’re easiest to work with.
WHERE DOES THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Newborn sessions take place at my home studio. The studio has been set-up and designed specifically for newborn babies. There’s a safe place to put the carseat, a rocking chair for moms to nurse, comfortable seating for the rest of the family, a changing table and lots of heat to keep baby warm during their session. I strive to create a clean, safe and mom friendly environment. I also have snacks, toys and entertainment for siblings and dads. I want this to be a stress-free experience for you so I try to provide as much as possible. All you have to do is get here.
WHY CHOOSE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY?
Newborn photography is a great way to remember the beginning. This is the start of motherhood for this baby and there is no better way to document all that heartfelt joy than with a newborn session.
HOW LONG DOES THE SESSION TAKE?
Typically, newborn sessions take about 90 minutes. They are usually scheduled on Tuesday’s or Thursday’s at 10:00 am. You’ll arrive at the studio with a hungry, tired baby. Before we begin, you’ll have time for a full feeding. This helps baby sleep through the entire session and we can move quickly between each pose.
Some sessions may take a little longer depending on circumstances but all sessions end at 12:00 pm. By that time, moms and dads are tired, baby is ready to eat again, and siblings are over it.
